Magical Blue: Indigo Dye and Surface Design Workshop with Victoria Larnach- Tuesday 22nd Oct 6-9pm at our Island Studios, Yamba Industrial Estate

or 4 payments of $35.00 with Afterpay

Indigo is the colour of wisdom, clarity, and deep inner knowing. Join us for an afternoon session as we share in the brilliant hues of one of the oldest natural plant dyes in the world, indigo, which has an alchemy and process especially unique to this ‘queen plant’.

In this workshop we will be creating a set of indigo dyed & shibori designed linen napkins and a table runner, perfect for any special occasions as we head toward holiday season. Participants will also be dyeing scrap fabrics of silk and velvet, to use for wrapping gifts or for decorative keepsakes.

The evening will begin with learning a bit of history about indigo and a discussion of it’s importance in cultures around the globe. We will address issues and challenges around sustainability, chemical dyeing, cultural loss, as well as explore our connection back to Earth.

We will then design our own dyed linen projects, using a natural indigo sugar vat, as Victoria shares several basic and beautiful Shibori techniques to apply onto our indigo pieces.

Participants will learn how to use the fructose indigo vat to achieve different shades of blue, and will leave with an understanding of indigo dyeing as well as their own finished linen table runner and napkin set, including silk & velvet pieces, ready to home use or gift-giving.

This workshop uses a chemical-free and all-natural dyeing process.
