Medusa’s Messengers- Original Painting by Fleur Yorston

The painting Medusa’s Messengers takes the ancient greek myth of “Medusa” as inspiration and to creatively rewrite this myth in Medusa’s honour  so she becomes the beautiful maiden  once again. Birds have been replaced by snakes as messengers, whispering words of support, courage and love.

Her story is a sad one- She was a beautiful maiden raped by the god of the sea, Poseidon in a temple of Athena. For this Athena punished her for this by turning her into the monstrous stony-glanced creature she is depicted as in many images.
